Man United vs Sunderland postponement latest as Met Office upgrade Storm Amy warning for Manchester

Sunderland are due to travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United this weekend.

Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure at Man United as his side look to welcome the Black Cats to Old Trafford for the first time since 2017.

The Wearsiders have picked up 11 points already this season, while the Red Devils have only accumulated 15 since April, showcasing the turmoil they currently find themselves in.

However, ahead of the game, a Met Office weather warning has been put in place, which will now affect Saturday’s clash at Old Trafford.

Yellow weather warning now in place for Manchester

Saturday will see Sunderland face off against Manchester United, but it will also see Storm Amy batter Scotland, Northern Ireland, North and Western Wales and the North of England.

On Wednesday, the Met Office did not have a weather warning in place for Manchester, with the yellow area for high winds just outside of the city.

However, things have since escalated on Thursday morning.

There is now a yellow weather warning in place for all of Greater Manchester throughout Saturday, with the Met Office’s forecast for the day showing strong winds and potential rainfall.

When Manchester United versus Sunderland kicks off at 3pm, 47mph gusts are expected, as well as a 60 per cent chance of precipitation.

While the game is under no immediate threat of being postponed, it could cause disruptions to travel arrangements, especially for those travelling from Wearside.

Sunderland and the rest of the North of England, minus parts of Yorkshire, are also under the same yellow weather warning.

Given Sunderland’s current form in the Premier League and Manchester United’s lack of it, the Black Cats will be hoping the game goes ahead as planned.

Thankfully, it seems like that will be the case, aside from the aforementioned disruptions.

Sunderland can secure statement victory vs Man United

Sunderland have shocked everyone with how well they have started the season, and while Man United may not be the same team they used to be, they still pose a significant threat.

It will have to be another strong performance from Regis Le Bris’ side to come away from Old Trafford with anything, though, as they have already shown on several occasions this season, they are more than capable of it.

Man United may be favourites to beat Sunderland, but early results have showcased exactly why football is not played on paper.
