Marc Guiu statement after Sunderland exit speaks volumes about what Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has done

Marc Guiu was forced to bid farewell to Sunderland, just three games into his spell on Wearside.

Sunderland signed Guiu on loan from Chelsea in August, and given his goalscoring record in Europe, he arrived with high hopes.

The Spaniard scored his first goal in his second appearance, though it wasn’t enough to prevent Sunderland from exiting the Carabao Cup at the hands of Huddersfield.

Less than a week later, it was announced that Guiu would be returning to Chelsea to cover for an injury to Liam Delap, and the 19-year-old sent a message to supporters via his Instagram.

What did Marc Guiu say to supporters?

Sunderland acted fast to secure the services of Brian Brobbey on deadline day, not long before Guiu took to social media to thank the Mackems for his short stay at the club.

He said: “Short, really short… but intense…

“In just a few weeks, I’ve come to understand what football truly means to this city and how that passion creates a unique and unmatched atmosphere at the Stadium of Light.

“It has been an absolute honour to wear this jersey, and although fate is unpredictable and had other plans for me, I can assure you that these colours and this city will forever hold a place in my heart.

“Thank you to everyone at Sunderland AFC for the warm welcome and support, I wish you all the very best for the future. See you soon, Ha’way the lads.”

Now, just to reiterate, Guiu was a Sunderland player for a matter of weeks, and for the teenager to come out with a statement like that does nothing but cast a shining light of positivity on what Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has achieved with the Black Cats.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus has turned Sunderland from a laughing stock to a competitive environment

It wasn’t too long ago that players were falling over their own feet to leave the Stadium of Light, with fans happy to see the back of them.

That has changed entirely, and it is all down to Louis-Dreyfus.

He has brought a sense of optimism back to Wearside and put procedures in place to ensure that the feeling in the stands is replicated by those plying their trade on the pitch.

Sunderland aren’t a laughing stock anymore; they are a Premier League side that rival supporters are now envious of because of the way that they are being run.

The Wearsiders have won two of their opening three games back in the Premier League, while ending a remarkably successful transfer window.

Whatever happens from now on, Sunderland fans will recognise the effort made by those above, and will forever be grateful for the fact that they have their club back where it belongs.
